Huntington Hospital Childbirth Education (626-397-8768)
(previously referred to as Lamaze Classes)
Huntington Hospital offers a variety of classes for pregnant women and their families. The former 5-session Lamaze series has evolved into 5 separately titled classes that can be taken individually, although we still advise taking all 5 of these classes.
The 5 Classes are:
- My Pregnancy
This is an introductory class and includes a hospital tour. Try to take this class between 26 and 32 weeks. It is offered once every 2 months, so sign up well in advance. Call them 4 months before your due date. - My Labor
This is an important class, and is the foundation for the other 3 classes listed below. - My Support for Birth
This class talks about methods for dealing with the discomfort of labor and childbirth, such as breathing techniques, positioning, massage and more. - My Hospital Birth Experience
This class discuss medical information and hospital procedures such as fetal monitoring, Cesarean Section and Epidurals. - My New Family
This class covers the newborn, Apgar scores as well as postpartum recovery after delivery.
For all of the above classes, it is a good idea to register well in advance, (ideally before week 24 of the pregnancy) since these classes are very popular and some time slots fill up quickly.
Childbirth classes are also offered which cover Infant Care, Infant CPR, Breast Feeding, and don’t miss the “Happiest baby on the Block” class. For more information, please call the Childbirth Education Office at 626-397-8768.
